BOGOTA AND CARTAGENA DELUXE

Day 1 | Arrive in Bogota
Reception at El Dorado airport and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 | Scenic Tour of Bogota
This morning drive takes you through the colonial section of La Candelaria to the Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of Bogota. Situated here you will find the Cathedral, the Congress Palace, the Cardinal's Palace, the colonial church of El Sagrario, the House of Independence, the Palace of Justice, and City Hall. Then you visit the famous Gold Museum, which houses the world’s greatest collection of pre-Hispanic Indian gold crafts. Lunch is followed by a visit to the Fernando Botero Museum, which contains paintings and sculptures of this well known contemporary Colombian artist. The rest of the day is set aside for relaxation and perhaps a leisurely stroll to the fashionable shops close to your hotel, should you so wish. Note: The Gold Museum is closed on Mondays. (BB/L)

Day 3 | Sabana de Bogota and Underground Salt Cathedral
Departure from your hotel in a northerly direction takes you through the eastern mountains that surround Bogota, from where you will have the opportunity to admire a magnificent view of the northern area of the city. Following short stops for photographs at the towns of La Calera and Sopo the tour continues through the beautiful landscape and fertile plateau until we reach the town of Zipaquira. Lunch included. Afterwards there is visit to the salt mine and world famous underground salt cathedral. Afternoon return to Bogota. Numerous photographic opportunities today!

Note: The Cathedral is closed on Mondays.

Dinner: Andres Carne de Res, an interesting restaurant in the outskirts of Bogotá offering excellent Colombian and international cuisine and an extraordinary atmosphere. Its well worth going there! (BB/L/D)

Day 4 | Bogota – Cartagena
Morning transfer to the airport to board flight to the coastal city of Cartagena. Meeting and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. (BB)

Day 5 | Morning Tour of Cartagena
Driving from the hotel through Bocagrande, the modern residential district, we will reach the Convent of La Popa, built at the beginning of the XVII century on the hill of the same name. From the hill there is a striking view of the city together with the bay. The tour continues with a stop at San Felipe's Fort, built in the XVII century to protect the city. After a good look at the location, continue to the walled colonial city with a stop at the colourful handicrafts stores of Las Bovedas. Walk along the streets to admire the old homes and mansions and their beautiful balconies. The tour ends at the Convent of San Pedro Claver for a visit. Photographic opportunities abound today. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore the city further, if you wish. (BB)

Day 6 | Cartagena - San Pedro de Majagua
Transfer to the Island of San Pedro de Majagua 45 minutes away by motor boat, the hotel’s private island and beaches. Accommodation is in bungalows with private facilities.

Note: At San Pedro de Majagua scuba diving centre is available daily. (BB/L/D)

Day 9 | San Pedro de Majagua - Cartagena - Bogota
Transfer to the airport to board the flight back to Bogota. Meeting at El Dorado airport and transfer to your hotel. (BB)

Transfer to the airport to board flight for home. (BB)
